COLUMBIA, S.C. — Carey Rich is listed for the 2026-27 season as Director of Player Personnel and Relations for South Carolina mens basketball in Columbia after an offseason promotion on coach Lamont Paris staff.
University athletics materials say Rich enters his fifth full season with the program. He spent four seasons from 2022 through 2026 as special assistant to the head coach before the new title.
In the personnel role he helps manage roster work, supports player development, and serves as a link among players, coaches, and campus and outside partners. The job also covers NIL education, ties to high school and grassroots coaches, and alumni engagement.
South Carolinas mens basketball staff directory lists Rich in that director seat alongside Paris and the rest of the coaching and operations group.
Rich, a Columbia native and former Gamecock captain, scored 784 career points and handed out 340 assists in 79 games from 1993 to 1995 after a season at Western Carolina. He ranked among the programs all-time leaders in assists per game before later working in city parks and recreation.
