Briles Offense Putting Up Big Numbers for Gamecocks in Columbia

Published October 16, 2026 at 9:08 am | By HERE Columbia, Staff Reporter

High school football game at night

COLUMBIA, S.C. — South Carolina’s offense under coordinator Kendal Briles is producing at a clip the Gamecocks have rarely seen in their SEC era, even while the team sits 3-3 overall and 1-3 in league play heading into the bye in Columbia.

Six games in, Carolina sits inside the national top 10 in rushing, inside the top 15 in total yards and around the top 30 in scoring. The averages land near 38 points and 475 yards a night — paces that would rewrite the program’s SEC-era record book if they hold.

The Florida road win flipped the passing game from early-season stalls into rhythm. Quarterback LaNorris Sellers piled up 279 passing yards with four scoring throws plus a run for a score as the attack finally looked complete against a ranked SEC defense.

Coach Shane Beamer has credited Briles with giving the roster confidence and a system the staff trusts, especially after seeing the production show up in conference games rather than only against lighter nonconference foes.

The first half of the year still mixed Kent State and Towson blowouts with tight SEC losses, so the numbers can mask defensive issues. Even so, after six weeks the question of whether Briles could deliver a dynamic attack in Columbia has largely been answered on the stat sheet.
