Falcons Get A.J. Terrell, Kendal Daniels Back at Practice

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. — The Atlanta Falcons’ banged-up defense got some help on the practice field Wednesday, with cornerback A.J. Terrell Jr. and rookie linebacker Kendal Daniels both working out as the team began preparing to host the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Terrell had missed the last four games on injured reserve with a groin injury he suffered early in the Week 2 loss to Carolina. He was a limited participant Wednesday, which opens a 21-day window for the team to move him back onto the 53-man roster. If that does not happen within the window, he would return to injured reserve for the rest of the season.

The former first-round pick has made 95 career starts for Atlanta. Last season he broke up 12 passes and forced two fumbles, each the second-best total of his career.

Daniels, who left Sunday’s matchup with Chicago on a cart during the third quarter, was a full participant in his first practice since. Head coach Kevin Stefanski said Daniels is not in the league’s concussion protocol, and the injury report lists a neck injury.

The secondary has been thin. C.J. Henderson took over for Terrell at outside corner before hurting his own groin in Week 5 against Baltimore, and he practiced on a limited basis Wednesday after sitting out against Chicago. Against the Bears, Atlanta started rookie Avieon Terrell, A.J.’s younger brother, on the outside. Cornerback Billy Bowman Jr., who left that game early, missed Wednesday’s practice with a hamstring injury, and linebacker Divine Deablo sat out with a forearm injury.

The Falcons also reshuffled the defensive line. They added defensive end Charles Snowden, pulling him onto the active roster from Washington’s practice squad, and released Bralen Trice, a former third-round pick who had played in four games this season, to make room. Snowden, a Virginia product, entered the league as an undrafted free agent with Chicago in 2021 and has also spent time on the practice squads of Dallas, Las Vegas and Tampa Bay.

Stefanski said it is too early to rule anyone in or out for Sunday, with two more practices left in the week.
