ATHENS, Ga. — Georgia no longer sits atop the Coaches Poll. The Bulldogs dropped three spots to No. 4 in the Week 8 rankings released Sunday, one day after unranked Auburn left Sanford Stadium with a 27-24 win.
Miami is No. 1 for the first time in 2026, the third different No. 1 in as many weeks. Ohio State climbed to No. 2 and unbeaten BYU jumped to No. 3, part of a weekend in which five teams from the top 10 lost.
The loss broke several long runs for Georgia. Kirby Smart’s teams had a 41-4 record as the top-ranked team, and an 18-0 mark at home with that ranking, and they had beaten Auburn nine years in a row going back to 2017.
Georgia had also won 53 straight games against unranked opponents and went in as a favorite of roughly three touchdowns, with the line at 20.5 points.
Auburn erased an early 14-0 deficit with 24 straight points and won on a field goal at the final whistle. It was the first road win by an unranked team over a No. 1 team since 2007, and Auburn’s first victory in Athens since 2005. The Tigers picked up 55 points in the poll voting but stayed outside the Top 25.
Georgia was not the only SEC heavyweight to tumble. Alabama managed just 201 total yards in a 26-10 loss at Tennessee, and the No. 11 Volunteers now sit two places ahead of the No. 13 Crimson Tide.
A loss to Florida dropped Texas below the top 10, a sharp turn for a team that was ranked first just two weeks ago. Florida and Oregon are the newcomers to this week’s poll.
Georgia still sits in the top five with half a season left, but the drop costs the Bulldogs ground in the College Football Playoff race as SEC play continues.
