ATLANTA, Ga. — The Atlanta Falcons spotted the Chicago Bears a 24-point lead at home on Sunday and could not finish the climb back, falling 31-23 to drop to 2-4 on the season.
Chicago took control early behind quarterback Caleb Williams, who was back from a hamstring injury that had kept him out for three games. He connected on his first dozen throws, finished 30 of 36 for 305 yards and a touchdown, and D’Andre Swift scored twice on the ground. By the time the Bears went up 31-7, the Falcons had little room left to lean on Bijan Robinson, who got only nine carries, for 61 yards.
Michael Penix Jr., playing a week after leaving the overtime loss to Baltimore with a rib injury, kept Atlanta in it late. He went 19 of 33 for 225 yards and three scores. Jahan Dotson caught a 13-yarder in the second quarter, and Kyle Pitts reeled in two fourth-quarter touchdowns, from 10 yards out and then with 5:41 to go. Two-point passes to Zachariah Branch and Drake London pulled Atlanta within eight.
Chicago cornerback Kyler Gordon ended the threat. Playing his first game of 2026 after a calf injury, he collected three sacks and forced two fumbles, the last on a Penix sack with 2:54 left. Devin Bush recovered at the Atlanta 28, and the Bears ran out the clock.
Ball security hurt the home team. Branch muffed a fair catch late in the first half to set up a Chicago score at the Atlanta 10, and he lost another fumble on a third-quarter kickoff return.
Falcons coach Kevin Stefanski put the slow start on himself and his staff. Linebacker Kendal Daniels was carted off in the third quarter with a neck injury; the team said he was alert, could move his arms and legs and was taken to Grady Hospital for evaluation.
