ATLANTA, Ga. — Georgia State women’s soccer has a chance to tighten its grip on a top-four spot in the Sun Belt Conference on Thursday night, when the Panthers host Marshall at 7 p.m. at the GSU Soccer Complex.
The stakes are clear. Both teams are fighting for places among the top four in the league standings with three regular-season matches left. Georgia State comes in at 9-4-2 overall and 4-2-1 in conference play with 13 points, one of only three teams sitting above Marshall in the table. The Thundering Herd are 7-3-5 and 3-1-3 in the league.
The Panthers have been steady lately. They blanked Arkansas State 2-0 on Oct. 2 and edged Louisiana 1-0 at home on Oct. 11, with a 2-1 loss at ULM in between. Their most recent outing was a 1-1 draw at Coastal Carolina on Oct. 15.
Senior forward Aaliyah Faddoul is the player to watch for Georgia State. She leads the team with 10 goals, third-most in the Sun Belt, and her 24 points also rank third in the conference. Ed Joyce is in his 11th season as the Panthers’ head coach.
Marshall leans on forward Wiktoria Mikrut, who has seven goals on 52 shots and has scored in each of her last two matches. The Herd are 3-3-2 on the road this season, and one more win would give the program back-to-back winning seasons for the first time.
Georgia State holds a 2-1-1 edge in the all-time series, and the teams have played every season since 2022. Thursday is also Youth Night at the GSU Soccer Complex.
After this one, the Panthers go to James Madison for a 1 p.m. match on Sunday, Oct. 25, then close the regular season at home against Old Dominion on Sunday, Nov. 1, for Fan Appreciation night.
