Bottoms and Ossoff Rally 1,500 in Cobb as Early Voting Rolls on

Ballot drop box set in a brick wall

COBB COUNTY, Ga. — Democrats Keisha Lance Bottoms and Jon Ossoff brought more than 1,500 supporters to a convention center in Cobb County on Saturday, using the first weekend of heavy early voting to press metro Atlanta voters to get their ballots in.

Bottoms, the former Atlanta mayor who is the Democratic nominee for governor, and Ossoff, the U.S. senator running for a second term, shared the stage and leaned on the same set of issues: health care, housing people can afford and the rising cost of everyday life.

Bottoms pitched a plan to make it cheaper to drive in Georgia by cutting the state gas tax and doing away with the state tax on car insurance premiums. She also went after Republican nominee Rick Jackson and President Donald Trump, casting each early ballot as a way for voters to show their voices will not be silenced.

Ossoff spoke about the world his two young daughters will inherit and argued that every citizen should be guaranteed health care. He also aimed sharp criticism at his Republican opponent, U.S. Rep. Mike Collins, over his background and the people around him.

The Cobb event came one day after Trump held a rally in Dalton for Jackson and Collins. There, the president called the midterms possibly the most important ever and predicted Georgia voters would turn Ossoff out of office, while warning that Bottoms would damage the state if elected.

Speaking after the rally, Bottoms said her campaign was pleased with turnout so far but stressed that coming close would not be enough and that supporters needed to stay engaged through the final 17 days of the race. Early voting has drawn record interest this cycle.
