ATHENS, Ga. — Four-star safety Nick Carroll of Toombs County High School in Lyons committed to the Georgia Bulldogs, becoming the first player to commit in the Bulldogs defensive class for 2028.
Carroll is ranked as the No. 48 recruit in the nation, the fourth-best safety in the class of 2028 and the fifth-best recruit in Georgia. The 5-foot-10, 170-pound athlete is a Peach State product who also plays wide receiver and can return kicks.
He joins four-star tight end Asa Wall and the nation’s top quarterback, Jayden Wade in Georgia class of 2028. With Carroll committed, Georgia now has three pledges in the cycle and sits at No. 6 in the national team rankings for that class with a score of 66.38, just ahead of Florida.
Before committing, Carroll had reduced his top-schools list to seven: Clemson, Florida, Georgia, Oregon, Penn State, Tennessee and Texas Tech. He most recently visited Georgia for the Oklahoma game and also held scholarship offers from other college football powers like Tennessee, Penn State and Indiana.
As a sophomore he scored 11 touchdowns, had seven interceptions and posted over 700 receiving yards. Recruiting coverage describes him as a versatile defender who can contribute on offense and special teams for coach Kirby Smart.
Georgia 2028 defensive class is now officially underway with a top-50 national prospect. The Bulldogs continue building the cycle as early commitments shape the next wave of in-state and national recruiting targets for Smart and his staff ahead of a pivotal stretch of fall visits this month.
