Florence, Alabama – The anticipation is in the air as the University of North Alabama (UNA) beach volleyball team prepares for a thrilling weekend at the GSU Diggin’ Duals Invite taking place on April 11-12, 2025. This tournament marks the end of the Lions’ regular-season road invitational schedule and is primed to set the stage for what they hope is a strong postseason.
During the invite, the Lions will clash with some tough competitors. Notably, they are set to compete against the No. 18 ranked Georgia State Sandy Panthers not once, but twice! Additionally, they will face Louisiana-Monroe and Eastern Kentucky (EKU). The matches promise to be an exhilarating display of beach volleyball for fans and athletes alike.
The match schedule is as follows:
The Lions are currently riding a five-dual winning streak, boasting a commendable 14-10 overall record and a solid 6-4 ASUN conference record. Going into the invitational, the UNA players are aiming to extend their winning away from home against Louisiana-Monroe and EKU, both of whom they have had past success against.
Interestingly, this will be the very first match-up between the Lions and Georgia State, heightening the stakes and excitement for both teams. The Lions hold an 8-0 all-time record against EKU and lead the series against Louisiana-Monroe 2-1, giving them a potential edge in confidence.
In recent performances, senior player Katy Floyd made waves by becoming the all-time wins leader in program history with an impressive 84th career victory during the latest ASUN North Invitational. With her and her partner Selma Robinson leading the charge with an 18-5 record, the duo is a critical asset for the Lions as they approach the critical matches.
The upcoming weekend isn’t just about UNA. Georgia State comes into the competition with a 12-13 record but remains undefeated in their conference, carrying a strong 6-0 record. Meanwhile, EKU has an overall record of 11-10, making the competition both fierce and unpredictable.
Fans eager to catch the matches can tune in for live stats provided by StatBroadcast as well as watch the competition via ESPN+. For those who can’t make it to the event, full results and recaps will be available on the official athletics website after each day of exhilarating competition.
