Atlanta, Georgia – Out Front Theatre Company is gearing up for the world premiere of “Trick! The Musical,” a vibrant adaptation of the beloved 1999 cult-queer film “Trick.” The musical is set to debut on May 1, 2025, and will run until May 17, 2025, with performances scheduled from Thursdays through Saturdays at 8 PM and Sundays at 3 PM. A special Industry Night performance is also slated for May 12 at 8 PM.

The musical features a book and lyrics by Jason Schafer, the original screenwriter of the film, with music composed by Arthur Lafrentz Bacon. “Trick! The Musical” follows the story of Gabriel, an aspiring Broadway songwriter, and Mark, a go-go dancer, whose seemingly simple one-night encounter quickly evolves into a tangled web of complications.

Paul Conroy, the founder and producing artistic director of Out Front Theatre, is directing the production. The cast includes Aavyn Lee in the role of Gabriel and Will-Franklin Eller as Mark. They are joined by Leah Keelan as Kathryn and Kayce Denise as Terri, among others. The ensemble brings to life approximately 15 original songs that encapsulate a quirky and heartfelt love story.

The themes of “Trick! The Musical” resonate deeply with contemporary audiences, focusing on connections, joy, and acceptance. This is especially significant in light of the increasing hostility directed at the LGBTQ+ community. The production aims to present a positive narrative that celebrates LGBTQ+ experiences and fosters a sense of community, serving as a counterpoint to prevailing sociopolitical challenges.

This musical marks a crucial collaboration between Schafer and Out Front Theatre, highlighting the importance of artistic cooperation within smaller theatre companies that dedicate their efforts to promoting marginalized voices. The creative team and cast have been lauded for their genuine heart and humor, which promise to engage audiences and bring forward an uplifting message.

Tickets for “Trick! The Musical” are priced between $35 and $40 and can be purchased online at OutFrontTheatre.com. Demand is expected to be high due to the show’s unique premise and the popularity of the cult classic film upon which it is based.

The original film “Trick” told a story of missed connections and unexpected love, garnering a dedicated following since its release over two decades ago. It has since been recognized for its authentic portrayal of queer relationships and the challenges that come with them. The musical adaptation seeks to expand upon these themes, offering fresh perspectives and new musical interpretations, while remaining true to the spirit of the original work.

As the world of theatre continues to evolve, productions like “Trick! The Musical” highlight the necessity for diverse storytelling and the representation of LGBTQ+ narratives on stage. The Out Front Theatre Company’s commitment to social issues and community engagement through the arts reinforces the importance of creating spaces where all voices can be heard and celebrated.
