Kyle A. Huhtanen Takes the Helm as CEO of Habitat for Humanity in Northwest Metro Atlanta

Exciting changes are on the horizon for Habitat for Humanity of Northwest Metro Atlanta! The organization has officially announced the appointment of Kyle A. Huhtanen as its new CEO and Executive Director. He will step into this crucial role starting on February 3, 2025. This appointment comes as the organization seeks to continue its mission of providing decent and affordable housing in the community.

A New Chapter Begins

Huhtanen will be taking over from Jessica Gill, who has played a vital role in the organization. While Gill moves to a consulting position within Habitat, Huhtanen looks forward to building on the strong foundation already in place. He joins the team with an impressive track record, having previously served as the Executive Director of Decatur Church of Christ Senior Housing, Inc. There, he successfully managed two senior housing communities, providing for nearly 400 residents. His commitment to community service is evident in his extensive experience in the nonprofit sector.

A Diverse Background

What sets Huhtanen apart is not just his leadership skills but also his diverse background. With a B.A. in Architecture and a degree in Environmental Design, he brings a unique perspective to the organization. His previous positions include serving as Executive Administrator for Decatur Christian Towers and as Program Manager for Third Lens Ministries. Huhtanen’s expertise extends into navigating local government partnerships, making him an excellent fit for Habitat’s objectives.

Bilingual and Community-Focused

Language should never be a barrier to helping those in need. Huhtanen is bilingual in English and Spanish, which will undoubtedly enhance communication with diverse community members and stakeholders. This skill is not just a personal achievement but a vital asset that aligns with Habitat for Humanity’s commitment to inclusivity and community engagement.

A Vision for Affordable Housing

As he steps into this leadership role, Huhtanen has expressed immense excitement about collaborating with the Habitat family and local stakeholders. His main goal? To find effective and innovative ways to deliver affordable housing solutions specifically in Cobb, Douglas, and Paulding Counties. Under his leadership, the organization looks to continue making a significant impact on the lives of families in need of housing.

An Established Legacy

Habitat for Humanity of Northwest Metro Atlanta has been a beacon of hope in the community since it was founded back in 1986, originally as Cobb County Habitat for Humanity. Since then, the organization has grown and expanded its reach, transforming its name in 2008 to include Douglas and Paulding counties. Remarkably, nearly 600 homes have been built, rehabilitated, or repaired since the organization’s inception. That’s a lot of families that have benefited from the hard work and dedication of this organization!

Looking to the Future

As Huhtanen sets out on this new journey, he will undoubtedly encounter challenges. However, with his robust experience and a passion for community development, he is well-equipped to lead Habitat for Humanity of Northwest Metro Atlanta into its next chapter.
