Georgia State Patrol Identifies Driver Responsible for Fatal Crash in Atlanta’s Little Five Points

ATLANTA – Tragedy struck in Atlanta’s Little Five Points when a 19-year-old named Cooper Schoenke lost his life in a devastating car crash on Monday night. The Georgia State Patrol (GSP) has confirmed that Schoenke was the unfortunate victim in this tragic incident.

The Crash Details

On the fateful evening, Schoenke was behind the wheel of a Honda Accord, navigating the busy intersection of Moreland Avenue and McClendon Avenue around 8 p.m.. His vehicle was suddenly struck by a Chevrolet Equinox driven by Faduma Mohamed, a 23-year-old from Stone Mountain. Unbeknownst to Schoenke, Mohamed was attempting to evade law enforcement after being pulled over for speeding earlier on Interstate 20.

Instead of complying with the police, Mohamed exited the interstate and continued her reckless journey north on Moreland Avenue. Eyewitness accounts reveal that she ran a red light, leading to a catastrophic collision that propelled Schoenke’s Honda nearly a block from the point of impact.

The Aftermath

The scene was described by onlookers as disturbing, further complicated by surveillance footage capturing the chaotic moments that followed the crash. Tragically, Schoenke was pronounced dead at the scene, leaving a community in mourning.

Mohamed, on the other hand, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was promptly transported to Grady Memorial Hospital for treatment. In light of her actions, she is now facing an array of serious charges, including vehicular homicide, murder, and possession of a schedule I narcotic, as well as multiple traffic-related offenses.

A Disturbing Reaction

Witnesses provided alarming accounts of Mohamed’s response after the collision, reporting a seemingly celebratory reaction as she was being taken away in an ambulance. This unsettling behavior raised further questions about her state of mind during the incident.

Community Response

Cooper Schoenke was well-regarded in his community, employed at The Fox Theatre, which has expressed condolences over his tragic passing. Additionally, Drew Charter School, where Schoenke had been a student, released a statement mourning his loss while offering support to students and staff affected by this crisis.

On-Going Investigation

This tragic incident marks the second fatality of an innocent driver in a police pursuit in Atlanta within just one week. The investigation into Mohamed’s reasons for fleeing police is still underway as the community grapples with the senseless loss of a young life.
