Local Students Shine at Annual Atlanta Technology and Innovation Competition

Atlanta buzzed with excitement this past Saturday as the Atlanta Public School system held its highly anticipated annual technology and innovation competition. With over 300 enthusiastic students showcasing their incredible tech projects, the event transformed into a celebration of creativity and innovation amongst young minds.

Categories Galore!

This year’s competition featured an array of categories that truly highlighted the diverse talents of the participating students. Categories included robotics, coding, multimedia design, and game design, encouraging participants to tap into their creativity. District leaders were quick to point out how vital this event is in fostering creativity, critical thinking, and the development of valuable technical skills in students.

Passion Meets Technology

Digital Learning Specialist Jennifer Hall expressed how impressed she was with the passion each student demonstrated while working on their classroom projects. Many students infused their personal interests into their tech projects, showcasing their learning in relatable and engaging ways. This integration of technology into their passions is what truly makes these young innovators shine in their respective fields.

Pathway to State Competition

On top of the adrenaline and excitement, the competition offered a chance for the brightest stars to advance to an upcoming state competition next month. First-place winners in each category and grade level earned their tickets to potentially showcase their talent on an even bigger stage.

A Glimpse into Previous Successes

Georgia Student Technology Competition saw local Jewish students earn top awards across various categories. With more than 1,000 students from grades three through twelve taking part, it’s clear that a vibrant tech culture exists within the community. Sponsored by the Georgia Educational Technology Consortium, this event continues to cultivate a passion for technology among students.

Meet the Winners!

Among the shining stars was Ella Siegel, a fifth grader at Atlanta Academy, who took home first place in the Video Production category with her stellar project focused on the 2022 Winter Olympics. Using tools like WeVideo and a green screen, Ella turned her passion into a creative masterpiece, a project inspired by her experiences during virtual learning. Her track record speaks volumes, as she has previously clinched the top spot in the Fulton County regional competition and secured third place at the state level last year.

Another fifth grader, Maia Asman, wowed the judges in the Productivity Design category with her innovative project titled Disney 3D: The Disney Data Dashboard. Meanwhile, students from the Davis Academy also showcased their tech prowess, with Isaac Schindler earning second place in the Project Programming category, while Rahm Regev and Reid Baer snagged third place in Digital Game Design.

Little techies are making waves too, as Eli Herd, a second grader, received third place in the Mobile App Development category for his app dubbed Kind Kids. In the Graphic Design category, Alexis Schulman from The Epstein School swept the competition with her inventive coffee shop design project. Meanwhile, Binah Leinwand, also from The Epstein School, secured second place in Mobile Applications with her music-themed app, both projects nurtured during TILT (Technology Innovation Learning Time) classes at their school.

Encouragement and Future Prospects

As the competition concluded, excitement rippled through the crowd as Emily Heflin congratulated all the students on their amazing achievements and encouraged them to continue exploring the realms of creativity through technology. With Georgia’s growing reputation as a tech innovation hub, nurturing the next generation of leaders in technology is paramount across both public and private educational institutions. With each event, we inch closer to a brighter future led by these aspirational young innovators.
