Atlanta Police Arrest One Suspect and Search for Two After Armed Carjacking Incident

Atlanta police have arrested a 23-year-old man following an armed carjacking that occurred around 11:45 p.m. on July 22, 2025. The incident took place on Myrtle Street near Piedmont Avenue NE, where two victims were approached by three armed men demanding keys, wallets, and phones. After complying with the demands, one of the victims’ vehicles was stolen.

Officers responded promptly to the scene and began their investigation by reviewing surveillance footage from the area. This led to the tracking of the stolen vehicle, which was later spotted traveling near Lee Street SW. A police chase ensued, ending at 5178 Seaside Ct., a neighborhood close to College Park. During the pursuit, two suspects exited the vehicle and fled on foot, while the driver was apprehended.

The driver of the vehicle was identified as Ernest Jones. He was found in possession of a replica BB gun, stolen financial cards, and several personal belongings belonging to the victims. Jones now faces multiple serious charges, including Aggravated Assault, Armed Robbery, Theft by Taking (Felony), and Possession of a Firearm during a Felony, among others. The full list of charges against him also includes Financial Transaction Card Theft, Theft of Lost or Mislaid Property, Driving without a License, Failure to Maintain Lane, Fleeing and Eluding, Reckless Driving, Striking a Fixed Object, and Obstruction.

Following his arrest, Jones was taken to Grady Detention Center for processing. Meanwhile, the two other suspects who fled the scene remain at large, prompting an ongoing investigation. Multiple law enforcement agencies, including Atlanta Police, South Fulton police, and College Park police, collaborated extensively in the pursuit and manhunt for the suspects.

Authorities are urging anyone with information regarding the remaining suspects to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigation.
