Exciting Changes Coming to Atlanta’s Bus Network! Join the Conversation!

ATLANTA – Great news for all bus riders and residents! MARTA is rolling out an opportunity for the public to engage in a major redesign of its bus network, and they want to hear from you! With over 30 opportunities for participation, both virtually and in-person, this could be your chance to help shape the future of public transit in our city.

What’s the Buzz?

The excitement centers around the unveiling of the draft NextGen Bus Network plan, which includes a strategic overhaul of more than 100 bus routes aimed at creating a smarter, faster, and better transit network. MARTA’s goal is to meet the evolving needs of Atlanta and surrounding areas more effectively.

Mark your calendars – the public engagement kicks off with an open house at MARTA headquarters on Saturday, January 25, 2025. This event will give everyone a chance to dive deep into the proposed network changes. If you can’t make it that day, no worries! A final open house will also be held on Saturday, February 22, 2025, to make sure everyone has a say.

What’s in Store?

MARTA is planning various formats for the meetings, including some friendly “lunch and learn” sessions that you can join from the comfort of your home or office. It’s a great way to grab a bite while getting informed about vital changes affecting your daily commute!

The NextGen Bus Network aims to enhance equity and community engagement. Riders, residents, and stakeholders are encouraged to lend their voices to this transformative initiative. Feedback gathered during this time will directly influence the final recommendations, and your thoughts will be taken into consideration during public hearings and board approvals this spring.

Why Participate?

Why should you care? Well, the new improvements are not just about changing routes; they also focus on providing greater access to jobs and services, especially for those living in lower-density areas. The draft network plan promises to reduce the number of fixed routes from 113 to 79, while actually increasing service frequency. You read that right!

The number of corridors offering service every 15 minutes is set to skyrocket from five to 18, and the frequency of routes available every 20 minutes is jumping from nine to 13. Talk about convenience!

Keeping Up with Growth

With the Atlanta region experiencing unprecedented growth, there’s never been a greater need for flexible and effective transit solutions. MARTA’s new proposals include on-demand service zones that will be tailored to the specific needs of the community, making it easier for everyone to get around.

Public comments are not just encouraged; they are essential in shaping how the NextGen Bus Network will operate. Feedback will be collected until March 9, 2025, through an online survey that is super easy to fill out. Your voice matters!

Looking Forward

So, whether you’re a daily bus rider or just a concerned Atlanta resident, your input is crucial. The new bus network is expected to roll out in late 2025, and your participation could make a real difference in how efficiently we all get around the city. So don’t miss out on this chance to have your say in the future of Atlanta’s transit system!

Stay tuned for more updates and prepare to be part of something big. The future of public transit in Atlanta is bright, and with your help, it will be even brighter!
