Atlanta mourns the loss of Delia Bridwell Reynolds, a beloved matriarch and renowned miniature artist, who passed away peacefully at the age of 89 on August 8, 2025, after a progressive illness. Her remarkable life was marked by her creativity, family devotion, and unwavering community spirit.
Delia was born on December 9, 1935, in Claxton, Georgia, to Blanche and Harry Bridwell. She grew up near Savannah and excelled academically, graduating as valedictorian from Effingham Academy. An active member of the Georgia Salzburger Society, her family lineage predates Georgia’s status as a British Colony.
She attended Wesleyan College in Macon, Georgia, from 1954 to 1956 as a music major and was also a member of the NCAA women’s golf team. Delia completed her education with a BA in English from Emory University in 1958, where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma and showcased her vocal talents as a soprano soloist.
Delia met her future husband, Richard Reynolds, through his sister Marianna during her time at Emory. They married at The Cathedral of Christ the King on November 21, 1959, and together they raised three sons: Richard “Rich,” Michael, and Timothy “Tim” in their Brookhaven home. Delia quickly became a maternal figure to children in the neighborhood and was a dedicated parishioner and choir member across several local churches, including the Cathedral of Christ the King, Our Lady of Assumption, and the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
In addition to her family commitments, Delia supported her sons in their varied interests and hobbies, often attending their sporting events and nurturing their passions, including a railroading hobby supported by Tim, who became an expert historian and modeler. Family outings were filled with steam train excursions, packed picnics, and shared enjoyment of literature.
Delia’s passion for arts blossomed alongside her role as a devoted mother. She collaborated with Michael on miniature-making projects and became a respected figure in the miniature art community, co-founding the Atlanta Miniature Society. She held leadership positions in both the National Association of Miniature Enthusiasts (NAME) and the International Guild of Miniature Artisans (IGMA). Her work gained significant recognition, particularly for her intricate miniature chandeliers and lamps, which she began selling through her business, Miniatures Limited, in 1979. Her creations were exhibited in shops, shows, and museums nationwide for more than 40 years.
As a grandmother to five—Ashlyn, Ansley, Richard, Mary, and Kathryn—Delia instilled a love for the arts, music, and crafts within her family. She actively supported her grandchildren’s interests, attending their sporting events and encouraging their creativity, particularly in literature. Holiday traditions, such as decorating the Christmas tree together, were cherished moments for Delia and her family.
Delia was known for her humor, generosity, strong faith, and deep love for her family. Her passing marks a significant loss with her being preceded in death by her parents, her sister Jo Elaine “Bitsy” Regan, and her nephew Justin Regan. She is survived by her husband of nearly 66 years, Richard J. Reynolds III, their three sons and families, including Richard John Reynolds IV and his wife Lee along with their three children, Michael Edwin Reynolds, and Timothy Bridwell Reynolds and his wife Deanna, who have a daughter, Ashlyn Hudson, and a granddaughter, Kathryn Reynolds. Also, she is mourned by her brother Harry Bridwell Jr., nephew Eric Regan, and other extended family members.
Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, August 13, 2025, from 5:30 to 7:30 PM at H.M. Patterson & Son Oglethorpe Hill, Atlanta, GA, with a Rosary at 5:00 PM. A Memorial Mass will be held the following day, August 14, at 10:00 AM at the Cathedral of Christ the King, followed by a Committal Service at Westview Cemetery at 11:30 AM.
