CLEMSON, S.C. — Clemson still has to earn bowl eligibility, but the early postseason forecasts released this week have the Tigers spending December somewhere far from the Upstate.

Two national projections place Clemson in the brand-new San Juan Bowl in Puerto Rico, an ACC vs. Sun Belt game set for Dec. 16 at 7:30 p.m. at Hiram Bithorn Stadium. One pairs the Tigers with Georgia State and the other with Louisiana.

Other forecasts favor the Sun Bowl in El Paso, Texas, on Dec. 31, with Oregon State, Arizona and Washington all floated as possible opponents. Another sends Clemson to the Holiday Bowl in San Diego against USC.

A trip to Puerto Rico would be rare. Clemson’s only games outside the lower 48 states came in Tokyo, where the Tigers beat Wake Forest in 1982 and Duke in 1991. Clemson has never faced Louisiana and blanked Georgia State 28-0 in their lone meeting in 2014.

First the Tigers, 4-3 after a 20-16 home loss to Virginia Tech on Oct. 24, must get through the back half of their schedule, starting with a 7 p.m. kickoff Saturday at Florida State, which is 3-4.
