ATLANTA, Ga. — The sound of old Havana is headed for Peachtree Street. Buena Vista Social Club, the musical that has won both Tony and Grammy awards, opens at the Fox Theatre in Midtown Atlanta on Tuesday night, Oct. 27, and plays through Sunday, Nov. 1.

The show tells the real story behind the famous album of the same name, in which veteran Cuban musicians stepped back into the spotlight to record it. Its story moves between two eras, the 1950s and the 1990s.

At the center is singer Omara Portuondo, once celebrated across Cuba as the Queen of Feeling, who had disappeared from public life and had not set foot in a recording studio in years. When a young producer offers her a rare chance to sing again, she has to face her own past. A large cast of musicians and dancers carries the story, with much of it told through the music itself.

The Atlanta run is presented by Regions Bank Broadway in Atlanta. Tickets start at $49, and the Fox uses all-in pricing, meaning the listed price already includes the restoration fee, service fee and taxes.

The theater’s box office opens four hours before each show on performance days. Most purchases inside the building are cashless, so guests should bring a card. Cash is taken only at merchandise stands, and guests with cash can swap it for a prepaid card to use at concessions.

The Fox also enforces a bag rule. Bags bigger than 8.5 by 11 inches, including all backpacks, are not allowed, and neither are face masks other than standard health masks or anything else that covers the face.
