BLACKSBURG, Va. — Georgia Tech heads into a sold-out, homecoming-week Lane Stadium on Saturday for a 3:30 p.m. kickoff against Virginia Tech, a matchup that used to settle the old ACC Coastal Division and still carries plenty of history.

The game airs nationally on ACC Network. It will be the 22nd meeting between the programs, and Virginia Tech owns a narrow 12-9 lead in the series.

The road numbers favor the Yellow Jackets. Georgia Tech has won four of its last five games in Blacksburg, an unusual run in a stadium known as one of the tougher places to play in the league.

The rivalry grew up in the division era. Across the 17 seasons the ACC split into divisions for football, from 2005 to 2019 and again in 2021 and 2022, the two schools combined to win the Coastal 11 times, with Virginia Tech claiming six of those titles and Georgia Tech five.

Virginia Tech is chasing its fifth win of the season. This will be the fourth home game of the year for the Hokies and the fourth straight to sell out at Lane Stadium.

The setting will be loud. Homecoming festivities run all week on campus, and the school is staging a maroon-out in the stands. A long-running tradition ends just before kickoff, when cadets from the Ranger Company of the Corps of Cadets finish a 100-mile run with the game ball and hand it to the officials.

Yellow Jackets fans making the drive north should know the pregame layout. Hokie Village, the home fan fest, sets up on artificial turf opposite Beamer Way and runs from noon to 2:45 p.m., with food trucks and live music before the teams take the field.
